Travel time from Levi to Jukkasjarvi is about 4 hours one way. Excursion duration, including lunch, is about 3 hours. Icehotel is the world's most famous hotel and an art exhibition made of ice and snow. Founded in 1989, it is reborn in a new guise every winter. Since 2016 a whole new ice experience is to be enjoyed alongside the classic Icehotel experience. ICEHOTEL 365 is a permanent structure and year-round ice experience in 2,100 m2 with 20 luxury suites, each with a heated area of private relaxation and bathroom, art suites, all sculptured by selected artists, ice bar that serves champagne and drinks, as well as an ice gallery – all created out of snow and ice. Around 30,000 liters of water from Torne River has transformed into snow and several tons of ice have been harvested from the river to create both parts of Icehotel. This ice experience is cooled by solar panels during the summer months. Icehotel is an art symposium in a class of its own. The energy released here when creative people from a wide variety of backgrounds and places meet the ice is almost tangible. Each year some 40 artists are taking part in Icehotel. After a short transfer, the engines start and we head into the quiet wilderness, following snowy trails and crossing frozen wetlands under the open sky. The evening starts with a pickup from Levi and transfer to our safari house. There, you’ll receive full thermal gear: a snowmobile suit, boots, mittens, helmet, balaclava, and wool socks - everything needed to stay warm and comfortable. Your guide will provide a safety briefing and basic driving instructions before we head out onto the trail. Each tour is different - some nights offer clear stars, others bring snowfall or, if conditions are right, the aurora borealis may appear overhead. A key highlight of this safari is access to private land . Much of the route runs on exclusive trails used only by our groups. This means no other traffic , allowing for a quiet and uninterrupted ride through the Arctic landscape. About halfway through the tour, we stop at a private wilderness hut (kota) , located in a wide, open swamp area. With 360-degree sky views and no light pollution, it’s one of the best spots in Levi for observing the Northern Lights. The location is far from roads, buildings, and artificial lights, offering ideal conditions for aurora viewing. Inside the hut, you’ll warm up by the fire, grill a sausage, and enjoy a hot drink while keeping watch on the sky. It's possible to ride almost in any weather and you really can do something to make your ride best possible. Clothing recommended: - Thermal underwear (double when colder than -18°C) - Mid layer - Winter jacket and trousers - Warm gloves or mittens - Winter shoes with double socks - Balaclava or thin beanie under helmet. Note long jacket might stuck in to the back wheel and causes unpleasant situations. Snowshoe Fitting in Levi & Gondola Ride to the Top. Your adventure begins in Levi village, where you'll meet your guide and be fitted with snowshoes based on your shoe size. Fitting is done at the meeting point to ensure proper sizing and comfort. Snowshoes are worn over your own sturdy winter boots. Once geared up, you’ll take a short transfer to the Gondola base station and ride the Gondola lift to the summit of Levi Fell. If the Gondola is closed due to the weather, we’ll drive up by car as high as possible, after which a short uphill walk of approx. 500 meters is required to reach the snowshoe starting point near the top. Hike to Santa’s Cabin – A Lapland Legend. Your snowshoe hike begins at the summit, passing through the most scenic and photographed areas of Levi. The highlight is the picturesque Santa’s Cabin, a small log hut nestled on the fells, blanketed in snow - it looks like a sugar-frosted fairytale house straight out of a Christmas story. This is one of the most Instagrammable locations in Finland. Take time to capture photos, enjoy the wide-open views, and feel the magic of Lapland from above. Downhill Forest Trail & Fireside Break. After the photo stop, your guide leads the group on a gentle downhill trail through a snowy forest, offering peaceful Arctic views and moments of serenity. Midway down, you’ll stop at a traditional Finnish kota (Lappish tepee) for a break by the open fire. Grill a Finnish sausage on a stick and sip on hot berry juice, a classic Lappish warm drink. Vegetarian options are available upon request. After the break, you'll continue snowshoeing to the lower parking area, where a car transfer will take you back to Levi village.
