INCLUDED PLEASE NOTE Pricing notes: Standard price is given for one person on a double snowmobile or in a sled. Solo driving is available as a supplement. Child price is valid for a child under 120 cm seated in a sleigh. Insurance covers accidents with a maximum driver excess of 1500 €. You can buy a waiver for 20 € to lower the excess to 350 €. The waiver is available to buy only on the spot. According to Finnish law, to drive a snowmobile one should be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license of category B, T, A1, or A (i.e. car or motorbike). Alcohol tolerance is zero, drivers will have to pass an alcohol test before the safari. A second passenger can sit behind the driver on the snowmobile if the person’s minimum height is about 140 cm and his/her feet can fully reach the footrests. Otherwise, this person should be seated in the sled. The sled is always pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. The sled has an open top and can take up to 8 persons. It’s advised that a small child seated in a sleigh is accompanied by an adult. The maximum speed limit is 60 km/h and 80 km/h on the lakes. Driving is only allowed on marked trails. Long enough to feel the rhythm of the sled and the quiet of the forest around you. The Ounasjoki rapids run alongside — one of the few rivers in Finnish Lapland that stays unfrozen throughout winter. Lichen feeding in the reindeer corral — reindeer therapy After the ride, guests enter the reindeer corral. The food handed out is the reindeers’ favourite delicacy — lichen, a natural Arctic plant they eagerly nibble like candy. The calves come close, sometimes close enough to touch. Moving slowly through the corral, there is time to interact with the animals, photograph them at close range and watch how they behave around people. Some approach readily; others keep a polite distance. These are semi-wild animals, and that natural shyness is part of what makes the contact meaningful when it happens. Johanna and the team call this the “reindeer therapy” part of the day — calm, unhurried, grounding. Reindeer are semi-wild animals. Remain calm near them and follow the guide’s instructions at all times. The Snow Igloo Park - Hand-Built Each Winter, Lit Against the Blue Sky The Snow Igloo Park is a hand-built world of carved archways, connecting tunnels, igloos and snow sculptures - enclosed by walls of packed snow, and lit in deep blues, purples, reds and ambers. In the Blue Moment, the coloured light sits against the natural blue of the kaamos sky rather than full darkness. It is a different and rarer version of the same park. Arctic Survival Presentation Inside the Snow Igloo Inside the big snow igloo, the Polarman gives his Arctic survival presentation - sharing the knowledge and techniques drawn from his years of living and travelling in the north.
