WHAT'S INCLUDED PLEASE NOTE MEETING POINTS WATCH VIDEO We offer you a self-guided husky safari with a track length of 20 km. Approximate safari time is 1.5-2 hrs. Safari time varies, as it always includes stop-overs and it's dependent on the weather conditions. During the stop-over musher and passenger can change places. We use 3 husky kennels, located about 30 min drive from Levi Center. In all kennels, owners are professional sport dog mushers and have specially trained Arctic-Alaskan breed huskies. This breed was created by cross-breeding at the beginning of the 20th century in Alaska especially for dog racing during the Gold Rush period. There are over 50 dogs in each kennel, including some Siberian huskies and puppies. Upon arrival, you will get complete instructions for driving (guiding) the dog sled on your own and then immediately start the safari. The track lies partly in the forest and partly on a beautiful frozen river (depending on the kennel). After the ride, you can walk around the kennel, pet the dogs, and take photos with them. Inside a cozy teepee, you can warm up around the open fire and have a hot drink with a cookie. The host will talk about life with the dogs and answer questions. WHAT'S INCLUDED Transfer. Guiding. RECOMMENDATION Due to the duration of the safari, this program is not recommended for children under 12 y.o. We strongly recommend wearing warm winter clothing. It can be rented separately before the departure from the Safarimarket office in Levi center at extra charge. If you want to rent the clothing, please be at least 20 min before pick up time to get dressed. It's better to be overly warm dressed than "underdressed", especially on longer safari programs. In cold weather, we recommend applying no-water-based winter cream for the face and covering tightly open skin areas. Please take off your gloves/mittens when touching the huskies. They love to play with gloves and might break them easily. Do not be afraid of the dogs, as they are genetically friendly to people. Do not feed the dogs. We recommend that you wear ski goggles on safari to protect your eyes from ice floes. Goggles are not provided. The approximate duration of the actual safari is 1,5 hrs. The average speed during our tours is limited due to safety and traffic regulations. According to Finnish law, to drive a snowmobile one should be at least 15 years old and have a valid driver's license of category B, T, A1, or A (i.e. car or motorbike). Alcohol tolerance is zero, drivers will have to pass an alcohol test before the safari. A second passenger can sit behind the driver on the snowmobile if the person's minimum height is 140 cm and his/her feet can fully reach the footrests. Otherwise, this person should be seated in the sled. The sled is always pulled by the guide's snowmobile. The sled is open-top and can take up to 8 persons. It's advisable that a small child seated in a sleigh is accompanied by an adult. The maximum speed limit is 60 km/h. Driving is only allowed on marked trails. At the moment there are about 100 huskies in the park, twice or three times a year puppies are born, so there are always puppies or at least youngsters in the park. The focus of all operations in Husky Park is the dogs, real, purebred Siberian Huskies, and special attention has been paid to their well-being and natural needs. This can be seen for example in fencing placing, which is unusual in this kind of operation, and also in dog feeding, which consists only of raw food. After a short security briefing, you will hop into a musher-driven sleigh, which can take 2 adults and a child. Just sit back to enjoy a thrilling husky ride! The musher will stand behind you on the runners and you will get a feeling that dogs are pulling you at their discretion. The duration of the ride is about 20 min. and the distance is about 5 km. Once equipped, a guide gives you brief instructions, and off you go! Within approximately 1 hour you arrive at the old reindeer farm that dates back more than 150 years. You get a bunch of memorable experiences of Lappish reindeer herders' culture. You are guided to the reindeer sleds and go for a short reindeer ride through the beautiful pine forest. You are able to take pictures with the reindeer and feed them with lichen. You can also check out old buildings around the farm, which have a nice collection of old Lappish artifacts from the reindeer herders. After the ride, you can taste Finnish warm berry juice in the old café and buy fresh homemade donuts (traditional "munchkin" in Finnish), souvenirs from reindeer antlers, and conserves from local berries. At the end, you return by snowmobile back to Levi Center (1 hour). The average speed during our tours is limited due to safety and traffic regulations. It's advised that a small child seated in a sleigh is accompanied by an adult. The maximum speed limit is 60 km/h and 80 km/h on the lakes. Driving is only allowed on marked trails.
