Silver Gallery JUHLs is a life's work of Frank and Regine Juhls. It all started in the 1950s when the couple began to take on work repairing Sami silver jewelry, none of which had been made by the Sami; it had found its way north through trade. The silver gallery building is full of surprises, such as the little hen and sheep barn, separated from the exhibition only by a glass wall. One room is devoted to the Juhls family's travels in Afghanistan where they found a nomad culture that bore many similarities to the Saami culture. A small wing is also a museum for old objects that were discarded in the fifties and sixties when plastic and steel came into vogue. As we’re driving to the North, you’ll see a landscape changing from taiga to tundra and after the Norwegian border crossing – fjords and mountains. After we arrive to the Arctic Ocean, we will stop at the peer of the most Northern never-freezing fjord. After a briefing about safety rules at sea we will put on the warm floating suits, board on a RIB boat and go out on a cruise in the fjord. When we reach the fishing grounds your captain will lift a big crab pod from the sea bottom full of crabs and release them on the deck. You can take photos with crabs. Captain will explain the difference between male and female, and if you’re lucky you can taste crab caviar. If the weather allows you can also try deep-sea angling from the boat at the same time. If we are lucky, we might also see some whales, seals and porpoises. When we return on the shore, you will be invited to a local village restaurant for a a delicious meal of freshly boiled king crab with speciality sauce. After the lunch you will return to Levi by bus. This experience is nothing short of authentic. The RIB boat is safe and your captain has a lifetime experience in the sea. When you go out to the fjord, you can feel the nature’s elements: the sprays of salty water, the wind, seagulls screaming … and the smell of fresh seafood, of course. A second passenger can sit behind the driver on the snowmobile if the person's minimum height is 140 cm and his/her feet can fully reach the footrests. Otherwise, this person should be seated in the sled. The sled is always pulled by the guide's snowmobile. The sledge has an open top and can take up to 8 persons. In just few minutes we arrive in the snowy, silent forest of Ounasvaara hill. We bike to the top of the hill and back to the city using forest roads and winter trails. RECOMMENDATION During winter season weather can be anything from snow storm and -1°C to crispy -25°C. It's possible to ride almost in any weather and you really can do something to make your ride best possible. Clothing recommended: - Thermal underwear (double when colder than -18°C) - Mid layer - Winter jacket and trousers - Warm gloves or mittens - Winter shoes with double socks - Balaclava or thin beanie under helmet. Note long jacket might stuck in to the back wheel and causes unpleasant situations. However this is a physical activity and can be challenging if you have not pedalled in many many years. Also if you are not familiar with bicycles at all, this ride might be a bit challenging one. Our smallest electric fat bikes suits around 150cm long riders. The northern weather might do its tricks now and then. When the winter cycling route is in good condition riding is very easy and flowy. Like a roller coaster where you decide the speed and intensity. After snow storm riding might be more difficult and we may have to change the route plans on the go. 99,9% of the time we will find good and fun riding and we get to the top of Ounasvaara hill and back during the ride! We have a good knowledge of the conditions out in the trails. If the conditions are not suitable for high quality riding, we let you know and you can decide if you still want to go or to cancel the trip with full refund.
