WHY YOU´LL LOVE IT
Drive your own husky team for a full 10 km - spend more time behind the sled and experience a substantially longer self-drive safari than the typical introductory husky ride.
Feel what mushing is like beyond the sheltered forest - the longer, more exposed route gives you a stronger sense of travelling with a dog team through the Arctic landscape.
Visit a small specialist kennel, not a large safari operation - Lapland Wild Witch intentionally keeps around 40 dogs and limits the number of daily sessions.
Meet the dogs behind your sled team - learn their names before departure and spend more time with them afterwards in the kennel and free-run area.
Enjoy the experience privately - your safari is reserved for your party, giving you more personal time with the dogs, musher and kennel.
THE EXPERIENCE
Drive your own husky team for 10 km from a frozen river onto a wide-open Arctic swamp, with distant fell views, then meet the dogs at a small specialist kennel 30 km north of Levi.
The most popular husky safari at Lapland Wild Witch kennel. 10 km with your own dog team, the best-balanced choice for riding distance and time without committing to a half day.

Lapland Wild Witch: small high animal welfare kennel near Levi
30 km north of Levi, is intentionally kept small, with 40 dogs only: Siberian huskies, Arctic-Alaskan huskies and three reindeer dogs. Animal welfare guides the way the kennel operates: small groups, maximum 3 sessions per day, at least one full rest day per dog each week, regular vet checks and physiotherapy, high-quality food, careful cleaning of the dogs’ living area, free-running time, and a kennel owner who lives on site. The dogs are not only her business, they are her family.
Self-drive husky safari from frozen river to open wilderness swamp
On arrival, the guide gives a full briefing and walks the group to the starting point, where the dog teams are already harnessed and excited to go. Before the safari begins, the guide introduces each dog by name.
The route starts with a short river section, then opens onto a frozen swamp: flat, wide and unobstructed. The treeline falls away and the fell horizon appears in the distance. Compared with the 5 km river trail, this route gives more varied landscapes and considerably more distance. The river section leads into open swamp, the forest edge disappears, and the fell comes into view on the horizon. Riding time is approximately 30-40 minutes. A stop halfway allows the driver and passenger to swap places. Ski goggles are strongly recommended, as the open swamp brings more wind and ice particles than a sheltered forest trail.
At the kennel: free-run area, kota hut and hot drinks
After the ride, guests walk through the kennel and spend time in the free-run area with the dogs before warming up in the kota hut with hot berry juice and cookies. The host talks about life with the dogs and answers questions.
