A message from our CEO, Alexei Petrov: Dear travelers and tourism professionals, I am excited to introduce our brand-new reindeer experiences in Levi, designed specifically for the winter season: Experience Reindeer Like a Local with a Snowmobile Sled Reindeer Herder's Wilderness Day with a Snowmobile Sled These unique programs offer a rare opportunity to engage with wilder reindeer, who are not accustomed to tourist activities like sledding. Both experiences guarantee exclusive privacy for each group, with transportation to the location provided by snowmobile sleds. The Reindeer Herder's Day includes a longer journey, as both the arrival and return are via snowmobile sled. Guests are picked up from the Levi area and transported directly to their destination: the reindeer corral in the first program and a secluded old-growth forest in the second. Each location features brand-new huts (kotas) where you can warm up by an open fire and enjoy freshly prepared delicacies. We've also constructed raised platforms at both sites, offering breathtaking photo opportunities of the reindeer in their natural surroundings with stunning scenic backdrops. Please note that these programs do not involve reindeer rides. The reindeer here are not trained for tourist tasks like at other farms. However, under the guidance of an experienced herder, these semi-domesticated animals remain calm and safe around people. You can find more information about the programs in the presentation linked here: Download Presentation MEET THE REINDEER LIKE A LOCAL WITH A SNOWMOBILE SLED You will get dressed in warm winter clothing and sit in a snowmobile sled for a fun short ride through the snowy landscape coming straight into the reindeer corral. In a blink of an eye you will be surrounded by the “sea” of reindeer .   Meet the friendly reindeer man and live the day of the reindeer herder. Learn to catch and harness a reindeer, feed them  and discover lots of interesting facts about these wonderful animals. Experience reindeer life just like the locals do!   Capture stunning photos with the reindeer against the picturesque backdrop of Kätkä fell. Spend about almost an hour closely interacting with these arctic animals and connecting with nature .   When start feeling chilly, move inside a traditional Lappish tepee , warm up by the fire and sip on your choice of warm drink: herbal tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. Fry in the open fire locally made reindeer sausages and pancakes while listening stories about reindeer life. After this unforgettable experience,  we will return you to Levi by car. REINDEER HERDER'S DAY IN THE WILDERNESS WITH A SNOWMOBILE SLED Unique experience of meeting the reindeer in the wilderness and acquiring important skills of the reindeer taming in a small group.   We will go for a sled ride pulled by a snowmobile to the  private lands through the untouched nature and stop in a private forest. Here together with the reindeer man we will be looking for the reindeer family. As we find them, the host will introduce us to the reindeer husbandry culture.  You will learn how to catch a reindeer with a lasso, to put a harness, feed them. You will learn a lot of interesting facts about the reindeer  and have good chances to take many nice photos of the reindeer in nature. You will spend about 2 hours outside with these arctic animals, get to know them closer and experience what’s called  “a reindeer therapy”.      As you start to feel chilly, we will go inside a traditional Lappish hut.  Sitting by the open fire, we have a warm drink and grill local-made reindeer sausage and fry pancakes. The reindeer host will tell stories about the reindeer and the arctic way of living. You can ask him more questions if you feel like it. You will return to Levi the same way in a snowmobile sled. From Levi’s center, a short 7-minute drive takes us to the transfer point, where we trade our vehicle for a sled pulled by a snowmobile. This ride sets the tone for the experience ahead, gliding through pristine Lappish landscapes—passing open marshes, snow-draped forests, and rolling fells. Part of the route crosses secluded, privately-owned land, granting us an intimate connection with untouched wilderness, far from the usual tourist paths. After a 20 to 30-minute sled journey, we reach a secluded ancient forest of birch and pine-land, privately owned and maintained by the reindeer herder’s family. This is where the magic happens. As we arrive, curious reindeer often gather around the sled, anticipating a treat. Our host - whose roots in reindeer herding run deep - will welcome you personally, introduce you to his family traditions, and share insights into the world of Lappish reindeer husbandry. You’ll have the chance to hand-feed the reindeer using a mix of traditional feed like hay and nutrient-rich pellets. Moving gently from one feeding spot to another, we’ll encounter dozens of reindeer, each with its own personality. This calm, close-up interaction is perfect for taking memorable photos and connecting with these majestic creatures in their natural setting. While some reindeer may allow gentle contact, many remain cautious and reserved, reflecting their semi-wild lifestyle spent largely roaming free. We often refer to this serene and grounding experience as “reindeer therapy” - a peaceful escape that brings you closer to nature and leaves a lasting impression. You’ll spend approximately an hour outdoors, surrounded by the reindeer in their peaceful environment. We begin with a rich and flavorful vegetable soup, served with rieska - traditional flatbread lightly toasted over the flames. Next, you’ll be handed a local delicacy: a reindeer sausage made with sustainably sourced ingredients. You’ll grill it yourself over the fire, guided by our chef, for an experience as authentic as it is delicious. To finish, enjoy thin, crispy pancakes cooked fresh on a cast-iron pan over the fire, topped with whipped cream and jam made from handpicked local berries. Freshly brewed coffee, made in a kettle over the open flames, pairs perfectly with this sweet treat. While you enjoy your meal, your host will continue sharing stories from the world of reindeer herding and Arctic life, offering plenty of time for questions and conversation. Before we wrap up the day, you’ll step outside for a fun and interactive tradition - practicing your lasso-throwing skills. It’s always a highlight and ends with you receiving a Reindeer Herder’s Assistant diploma . According to Finnish law you must wear a helmet even when riding in a sled. We will get you fully equipped for this ride. For the food we use only locally produced high quality ingredients. Please be at least 20 min before pick up time to get dressed. Important Information for Families with Kids: This activity is recommended for families with children aged 10 and above. However, its suitability depends on your child's temperament and your commitment as parents to take extra responsibility and supervise your children closely throughout the program. Key Points to Consider: Outdoor Conditions: The large part of the program takes place outdoors in the cold temperatures and lasts for an extended period. Ensure your children are comfortable in such conditions and dressed warmly to stay protected. Reindeer Interaction: Reindeer will roam freely around the group during the activity. Parents must maintain constant supervision of their children to ensure everyone's safety. The reindeer on the farm are semi-wild animals that are not tamed to interact with humans. As such, they may become startled by sudden movements, loud noises, or a person standing too close. When frightened, the reindeer may run in a certain direction and accidentally hit a person in their path, including with their antlers or hooves. Our company and the reindeer farm are not liable for any accidents involving reindeer that may occur during the program. Child’s Temperament: This activity is ideal for calm and composed children who can remain relaxed and quiet. If your child exhibits more active behavior and may engage in unexpected actions (such as running, shouting, or making sudden movements like waving their arms), the likelihood of an accident increases. Therefore, our company does not take responsibility for any potential consequences; this responsibility lies entirely with the parents. We had a great tour with guide Steve and herder Jussi in the woods. Jussi picked us up with a snowmobil with a sleigh for 10 persons and brought us deeper into the woods. He told us a lot about his work as a herder, about the reindeers and the familycompany. We were allowed to feed the reindeers, they are semi-wild, so we stood in the middle of the herd. So great! The reindeers walk freely in the woods but when they hear Jussi coming, they come to see him (food :) ). After a while we got hot drinks, pancakes and sausages made by Steve in the cabin, on the fireplace. Charming. Very relaxed and interesting tour, especially because it's max. 10 persons. The tour on friday we would like to was fully booked but they arranged another one for us, a group of 6, a few hours later. Many thanks.
